Daily Outfit: Last Days for Bare Legs

2011Oct24 1

So this weekend was seriously the best weekend ever. Not only was it four days instead of two, but Suze, and her husband Joe, came to visit. There are people that when you meet them you feel like you've known them your entire life. Suze definitely falls into that category. My face still sort of hurts from all the laughing. Suze and Joe are seriously two of my favorite people ever. We actually took fairly few pictures this weekend because we were too busy having fun. I promise I'll post pictures of our ridiculousness as soon as I get Suze's pictures from her and stop being lazy and edit my own pictures (which I need to send to you too, Suze!).

Yesterday I was enjoying my day off and the last remnants of the lovely weather. Gotta get my shorts and no tights in while I still can.

Daily Outfit: Love Shouldn't Hurt

2011Oct18 4

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
1 in 3 families are affected by domestic violence. Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behaviors — physical, sexual, psychological, and economic coercion — used by one intimate partner against another (adult or adolescent) to gain, maintain, or regain power and control in the relationship. Batterers use of a range of tactics to frighten, terrorize, manipulate, hurt, humiliate, blame, often injure, and sometimes kill a current or former intimate partner.
If you are in danger, please call 911, your local hotline, or (in the U.S.) the National Domestic Violence Hotline: (800) 799-7233 or TTY (800) 787-3224.

Daily Outfit: On the Edge of a Dream

2011Oct15 1

Holy crap has it been a different sort of week/weekend. I make no secret about the fact that I don't have the most lively social life... but this past week has been busy both work and social life wise. I had a very awesome first date last week and spent friday evening with one of my very good friends. And while Friday night was a lot of fun I will definitely not be doing much drinking for awhile. I spent Saturday between sleep and wishing I was sleep I felt so bad. This is why I DON'T drink... or rather one of many reasons. But yes. It's been a good, if a little crazy, week.

Also these pictures were interesting to take considering it was like an eight foot drop from this branch/root to the ground. Hence holding the shoes and not wearing them. These are NOT tree climbing shoes, and even I'm not that dumb. haha.

Daily Outfit: Love to Keep You in Suspense

2011Oct10 1

Ok so I lied.. the Hanson lyrics didn't end with the concert. I have been driving around town with my windows down dancing and singing and blasting Hanson for a week. They just have so many songs that make me feel good. Combine that with the weather and just a general feeling of satisfaction with life right now and it's a very good recipe. Even if random people stare at me while I dance at stoplights and drum on the steering wheel. They're just jealous they aren't haven't near as much fun in their vehicles!

Daily Outfit: Corn Maze

2011Oct8 1

This weekend I went to a corn maze and pumpkin patch with my family. It has become our new fall family tradition since the girls were born. This year we checked out a new one that we had not been to before called Autumn Acres. It was a bit of a trek to get to for all of us, but it was so worth it. The weather was perfect and there was so much to do. Caroline had a blast picking out her pumpkin and riding on the tractor. Once we got to the pumpkin patch her announced "Tractor stop! I pick one!" When I asked her which pumpkin was hers she said "All mine!" She's so stinkin' cute.

Then my dad and Caroline and I went in the kiddie corn maze... which we promptly got lost in. It turned out that after a good ten minutes of searching the check point we were missing was at the very beginning of the maze. It figures! I am proud to say that we did not get lost in the intermediate maze, but that's because I was reading the map this time! If there's one thing I am good at it's map reading... I think it has something to do with being such a visual person. But anyways because we were running short on time we didn't go in the big four mile maze, but maybe next year. Excuse all my wrinkles and my badly tucked shirt, that's what I get for taking pictures AFTER running around after and picking up a toddlers all day.

Thrift Store Haul: Roanoke

Ashley and I didn't waste any time when we got to Roanoke hitting up the local goodwill. Well actually we were on a wine run at our favorite Kroger when we ran across a brand new goodwill. It was like a bright blue beacon in the night. We definitely changed course and did a bit of thrifting before rounding up the wine. And ironically are couple of our friends from the area were there thrifting too. It was such a fun trip to Goodwill. I always love thrifting with friends. We tend to get overly excited and yell and wave random items in the air at each other across the store. I'm sure others find us obnoxious, but I find us fun. ha.

There were seriously like 12 of these skirts one in practically every color. They aren't satiny swishy material I had been looking for, but they are pleated and a great length, so I have to say it was a worthy compromise on the fabric. The lady said that she almost didn't put them out because the store manager thought they were too old fashion to sell. I snatched up the white one of course and then I love this blue color so I grabbed that one too.

I've been looking for thin belts that fit on my hips, so this brown one was just the ticket. Nothing special, but something that was on my thrifting list. I really hardly ever buy belts anywhere but thrift stores these days.

And these two... I adore this sweater. It's so soft, snugly and warm and I love the pattern of the knit. I definitely cuddled this to my face in the store. The dress I picked up with the intention of cutting it off as a shirt and wearing it with some high-waisted shorts and tights. What do you guys think? Is the pattern too much?

Over the Weekend: RMJ & Jason Get Married

So this past weekend my beautiful, amazing friend Rachel got married to the sweetest guy. I'm so excited for her and Jason. They had the cutest wedding it was so quirky and wonderful and just so very Rachel. I definitely shed some tears. My favorite parts of the wedding were definitely her amazing officiant who had them both write letters about why they want to marry the other person and it was just so touching to hear her share the couple's own sentiments about one another. And then there was the hilariousness of the nerf gun salute! So fun!

RMJ Wedding 2

I wish I had taken more pictures than I did, but I just sort of forgot I had a camera at one point. I took more pictures before the wedding than I did after the ceremony and I didn't take any druing. Here are a few random pictures of of beautiful friends!

RMJ Wedding 3

Some of my favorite Hollins ladies! Melody (my college roommate), Casey, Ashley, me, and my wife (Carol-Ann).

RMJ Wedding 4

Ashley trying to warm me up. I dressed poorly for the weather. I'm wearing two sweaters in this picture and right after this someone else took pity on me and gave me her jacket.

RMJ Wedding 6

Then there was a super intense game of foosball in the basement. Ashley and I reined supreme, but Moira and Erika put up a serious fight. It got incredibly intense. I miss my crazy Hollins ladies!

RMJ Wedding 7

RMJ Wedding 5

And one more random picture of Kat, Ashley, and Carol-Ann. This was after cake and stuff which I did not get a picture of... this folks is why I am not a wedding photographer. I failed at getting actual photos that show this was a wedding except that one up top. But I promise you it was such a lovely wedding. With yummy food, a great live band, and plenty of adorableness coming from the Bride and Groom. Too Rachel and Jason! I love you both!

Daily Outfit: I'm Stuck in Colder Weather

2011Oct1 2

A good friend of mine from college got married this weekend in Roanoke, VA, so I headed up there for the weekend. I had packed for the weather we were having here because it's generally about the same there... but I was so mistaken. I didn't even bring a jacket and I was FREEZING my nuts off all weekend. I think I probably should have imagined this outfit differently... like with tights, closed toe shoes, and a jacket. My bad....

My favorite part of this outfit isn't even mine, ha. My best friend Ashley's mom is an incredible jewelry artist. I have always loved her jewelry, so I asked Ashley to bring some of her necklaces down with her to Roanoke so I could wear one for the wedding. I was so excited when I realized this one matched my dress perfectly. Aren't all of those individual beads stunning?! She has a an etsy shop now, which I'm really excited about. I love to hear what some of your favorites are from her shop!
