This photo has nothing to do with the books I read, but I did just receive my set of the British children's editions of the Harry Potter books. They're so pretty that I had to share!
July/August Reads
Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows - J.K. Rowling
I love this book. I mean seriously love it. It was bitter sweet to finish rereading all seven book just in time for the final movie. It was the first time I'd read them all back to back and I have to say that you get something special out of them when you read them that way. Catching little details that you maybe didn't see the first time or didn't catch when reading them independent of each other. Even if this book consists mostly of camping as
this pie chart suggests. hehe.
The Help - Kathryn Stockett
I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I have told everyone that I've seen reading it or everyone who asks if it is worth reading that this is the first book that I can honestly say in my opinion is deserving of the hype that it has been given. I loved it. I laughed, I cried, I gasped. Good stuff, I promise you. I love the different perspectives on the lives of the characters and I really just plain LOVED Minny.
The Three Musketeers - Alexandre Dumas
I picked this up wondering if it could possible live up to my ridiculously high expectations of Dumas after reading the Count of Monte Cristo. Well it may not have been as mind blowing for me as Monte Cristo, but it was definitely in the same league. I just can't say enough about Dumas' ability to spin an intriguing tale and endear you to his characters. I'm excited to continue on with the D'Artangan romances... I'm already enjoying Twenty Years After.
Lord of the Flies - William Golding
Eh. That's what I have to say about this. It was ridiculously disturbing to me and while I kept having flashbacks to LOST I just didn't care about this book. I felt like I needed to read it for the sake of reading it, but I wouldn't recommend it. I got the point of it, but I didn't like the book.
