Daily Outfit: Not a Tourist

2011Jul27 3

I wore this to a meeting I went to in one of my rural counties. And I stopped in to pick up some apple butter at a restaurant I've gone to near there since I was a kid. When I was checking out the guy looked at me and goes "We'll you're definitely not of vacation or a tourist." I laughed.

I am just now getting the chance to mill through the responses to my survey post. And I think the verdict is I will be adding a monthly(ish) feature about health/wellness.  I think the first of this will be a really delicious healthy recipe that I love! And I'll probably do a haul post monthly for things like birchbox and jewelmint all in one post, but as of right now no real beauty feature.

DIY: Altered Top with Short-sleeves & Bows

DIY Bow Altered Top

It's amazing what shortening the sleeves can do to a top! I've had this top since high school and haven't worn it in years. The other night I got bored and decided to make it a short sleeves top since I love the shape of the neckline and holy crap does it look like a whole different shirt! I then used the parts of the sleeves that I cut off to make bows to add to the sleeves. It's so cute! I can't wait to show you how I style it tomorrow!

Daily Outfit: Something Has Got to Give

2011Jul24 3

I'm off my blogging game right now, if I'm being honest. It's so hot and humid I just don't ever want to take pictures. I have a lot a lot a lot going on at work right now. And my bloglovin' is climbing ever higher in unread posts. So if posting seems sporadic here the next few weeks... don't be surprised. There's just so much going on in my everyday life and obviously something has got to give.

Possible New Additions to Pixie in Pumps [Survey]

Changes

No outfit post today. Mostly I just was too lazy to take pictures in this heat on top of the crazy busy day I had at work yesterday. Since I don't have an outfit to show off I thought this might be a good opportunity to gauge how you guys might feel about some additions to the blog.

So lately I've been putting a bit more thought and effort into two things that I have been neglecting for years. One is exercising/eating healthy and the other is beauty products. I really hate to workout. Seriously I usually only exercise when I don't know that's what I'm doing.  And I haven't worn make up more than once a month or tried new beauty products in YEARS. But recently I joined birchbox (which I am over the moon about, by the way) and that's really what got be considering beauty products again. Then while watching a non-beauty related video (by the girl who's video's convinced me to try birchbox) I heard about the Tone it up girls. I started reading about them and the successes that people have had with their program and it got me thinking about how I need to start taking better care of myself. Which led to me making a workout plan and pulling out the healthy cookbooks and magazines I've been hording but not using. And oh yeah I started a vitamin regimen thanks to Kate's encouragement.

So naturally I've been considering whether these things have a place on the blog. I feel like part of getting healthier and eating better is being accountable to someone else, because let's face it laziness and bad eating is kind of an addiction in it's own way. If I do include either of these things they wont overshadow the main purpose of this blog which is daily style, but become a sort of feature.  So what are you thoughts?  I've included a little survey you can fill out and feel free to comment if you have anything to add outside of the survey!  Can't wait to see your feedback!

Dailiy Outfit: Blue Sky Night

2011Jul18 1

Two things look awesome in these pictures: the sky and my butt. I really might live in these jeans from this day on because I did not realize until I edited these pictures how incredible they make my butt look. Also scroll down and check the Ravenclaw ring. It came too late for the movie, but I am going to wear the heck out of it because I am so smitten with it!

Dailiy Outfit: Wit Beyond Measure is Man's Greatest Treasure

2011Jul14 1

What can I even say? I started reading these books when I was about twelve, and now at twenty-five the last Harry Potter event has come and gone. I spent half of my life having something Harry Potter related to look forward to... that's crazy to think about. It's been a tradition since the first movie came out that I see it with my dad and a few of my friends who have remained in touch and who are also huge HP fans. This time I didn't end up meeting up with the group of friends I often see it with, but my dad and I went to see the double feature showing. We got there at 6:30pm for the 9:00pm showing of part one and there was already a line forming, but once we got into that theater we got to stay in our same seats in that theater for part two, so it was kind of a sweet deal since the theater was PACKED for the midnight showing.

I of course was rocking my Ravenclaw shirt for the event. I also wore the cloak my ex-boyfriend's mom made my before the second movie came out, though I didn't get a picture of me wearing it. And I was rocking the wand that chose me at Ollivander's in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I was very excited and flailed around and stabbed my dad in the side of the head repeatedly with my wand. hehe.  I also painted my nails Ravenclaw themed for a little extra whimsy!

As far as the movie went I wont spoil anything for those who haven't seen it yet. There were things that I didn't understand why they changed for sure, there always are, but overall I really enjoyed it as a movie. The one thing I do have to comment on is the fact that they teased us that they were going to show the Ravenclaw common room like in the book, but then ripped it away. I was CRUSHED. I have been waiting for years for this movie to see my common room... I will say that my absolute favorite part of the movie was the Snape part..... they did it more than justice. I was full on ugly crying through that whole part. I want to reread the books again already... because it's only been a day and I already miss it.

Daily Outfit: So About This Dress

2011Jul12 2

Ok you're gonna have to do a lot of pretending here... like pretending that these pictures are not out of focus and pretending that I bothered to iron this dress... oh yeah and pretending that my hand doesn't look like a claw or like it's about to go all Idle Hands on someone in the first pictures. So now that we've got that sorted out, let's talk about this dress.

I was SO excited about this dress the moment I saw it on the site. I have been drooling over the actual price prohibitive Marc Jacobs dress this is a knock off of since it came out, so finally finding a dress that resembles it and is in my price range was very exciting. I am, however, sad to say that this is a pretty poor quality knock off. Not only is it ridiculously thin and made of cheap material, but the seams don't even match up and there are weird strings hanging off of the seams. I definitely expected much better quality of something that was nearly $50. Now I'm sure you're asking why I am wearing it if it has all these flaws. My answer is I don't think I'm going to find better than it in my price range without making it myself... so I'd rather have this one than none at all... and honestly no one else seemed to notice the flaws. Just I'm just going to shrug and give you guys the warning so that if you plan on getting this dress you'll at least know.

Daily Outfit: Yellow

2011Jul11 5

It's been a few months since I've done an Everybody Everywhere post. I just didn't really have anything to fit with the last two challenges, but it was really fun to see other people's maxis and lace, good inspiration for it I ever do acquire either.I'm not a big yellow wearer, but I do have a few things that are yellow. This skirt being my absolute favorite. Whenever I do wear yellow it's below the waist because yellow near my face makes me look sickly.

So I gave the sock bun a trying again and that's how I curled my hair this day. I like the easiness of this method, but sometimes the curls are not exactly what I want and I have to tweak them or brush them out... I did a little of that this morning. I also put make up on, which isn't part of my average routine. I do really love the way make up looks on me, and I used to wear it much more often... I'm gonna try to get back into make up again, because it's really kind of fun. So yeah, let's see how that goes.

Daily Outfit: Color Me Pleased

2011Jul8 3

So it was an eventful weekend. Between working eight hours on Saturday at a conference, providing moral support at 1am via Skype to my best friend while she tried to kill a house centipede (have you seen those suckers? if yes you understand the terror she was experiencing, if you haven't do yourself a favor and DON'T google them), and clean installing a new operating system onto my computer... it was intense. I finally took the plunge after months to update my operating system from tiger to snow leopard. Apparently tiger is the Mac OS X operating system equivalent of an 80 year old lady that doesn't play well with others. But now... I'm all updated and has much anxiety and fear I had about it before... it was actually really easy and the most frustrating part so far is that I can't remember my usernames and passwords that various sites have been remembering for year. My computer, however, runs like it's brand new... it's insane what getting rid of 5 years of random garbage can do for a computer's performance. Color me pleased!

Daily Outfit: And There's Been Walls Built & There's Been Worse Days

2011Jul6 1

So guys, I own a maxi skirt! Well it doesn't go to my feet, but this is as maxi as it's gonna get. I am completely in love with this skirt. The colors and pattern are to die for and it's so soft and comfy and lovely. I still feel stumpy in it, but for this baby I'll get over it.

I am working on getting into a workout routine and eating better and taking vitamins. I'm not really trying to tackle them all 100% at once, because really that would never work for me... right now that focus is on exercise. I mapped out a schedule for the month of July around all my work stuff and travel for work and I think it's something I really can stick to. I even printed it and have it where I can see it to remind me and where I can highlight each work out to note if I did it, missed it, or added one on a day I hadn't planned. So far it's going pretty well, but we'll see how this pans out near the end of the month. I'd love any advice you guys have about creating and maintaining a work out routine.

Daily Outfit: Busy Week Ahead

2011Jul3 2

I swear, I'll take the sunglasses off next time. I pretty much lived in them this weekend, so naturally they ended up in all my outfit pictures. I also lived in shorts this weekend... mostly these.  I've got a busy week ahead of me, and a lot of rain in the area, so don't be surprised if posts are scarce this week. Hopefully that wont be the case, but we'll see! I want to give a giant virtual hug to my lovely readers, by the way.... because you're all amazing and brighten my days!

Daily Outfit: I Know That There's No Grand Plan Here

2011Jul1 4

So this outfit was a complete accidental throw together... but I am so in love with it. I'm serious... I felt amazing in this outfit and I got a ton of compliments.  Throw in that I got my hair cut today which means that Dennis did his magic and my hair looks spectacular for these pictures. But really I think that blow dryer has magic in it or something, because no matter what I do to my hair at home it never looks like this.  Magic I tell you! Magic!

To my U.S. readers I hope you enjoyed your long weekend. I spent mine home with my family doing the swimming, BBQing, and fireworks thing. Nothing particularly special this year.  I didn't actually see any fireworks either... which has been the case the last few years. Actually the last time I saw fireworks on the fourth was when I was living in DC and I saw them from a balcony of the executive building my best friend worked at at the time. We had beer and festivities on her company and watched from like 30 something stories up and pretty close to the actual mall. It was nice. One for the memory books for sure.

P.S. I was going to show you guys a previously styled for this shirt until I realized that this is the first time I've worn it on the blog... which completely baffles me since I have worn it a dozen or so times since I got it in March. I photographed it once, but the pictures were so bad they never hit the blog... but still I'm kind of amazed this is the first time you're see it styled!
