Daily Outfit: Too Tired to Think of a Witty Title

It has been an exhausting week and it's only Wednesday.  I had planned to write a much more thought provoking post... but I just honestly don't have the energy tonight to put into it.  Tomorrow is going to be an even longer day than the rest of these combined and I don't exactly know how I'll make it through it without a nap... but I'm gonna have to solider through.  Enough of my grumblings, enjoy the outfit and maybe my brain will be functioning again after a little sleep.

Daily Outfit: Taking Back What I Said About Jeggings

That's right... I'm wearing jeggings.  After I saw these exact jeggings on Elizabeth of Delightfully Tacky I had to go try them on becuase they looked like they could have been just ordinary skinny jeans.  So I found them at my local Dillards this week and tried them on.  I was floored by how well they fit.  So they fit like skinny jeans, but without that uncomfortable tightness in the waist, which is always a problem for me with skinny jeans.  And the other great thing is that they feel like jeans and zip like jeans, and even have back pockets like jeans.  I'm so impressed with these things!  I have been looking everywhere for the comfortable skinny jeans that are tight enough around the calves and ankles to we worn with all of my boots and booties.  These definitely fit the bill and are so comfortable! (and just so you know, no one asked me to write about these jeggings and they are not courtesy of anyone.)

My Weekend: At the County Fair

My mom and dad and I took my niece, Caroline, to the county fair this weekend. She had an absolute blast running around, seeing all the animals, and enjoying a few county fair snacks.











And then we went to my sister's house to see the newest addition to our family: Caitlin Jane, who was born Thursday. She's a tiny little peanut!

FBFF: Dos and Don’ts

1. What do you think are some of the top fashion don’ts?
I am against socks and sandals no matter what the fashion trends say.  Tights has as pants.  Crocs will always be a fashion don't in my book, though I will let them slide for bartenders when they're the little ballet flats, but the clog ones are a big fat don't for pretty much anyone by nurses (and I AM looking at you Mom and Dad).

2. What previous fashion don’t do you now wear with pride?
Jeggings... I was definitely against them whole heartedly until I tried on a pair of those Jessica Simpson ones.  They won me over.  In fact, I'm wearing them RIGHT NOW.

3. Do you think there is a universal fashion do?
I like to encourage as many people as possible to mix black and brown.  It's my favorite color combination and I know a lot people still see it as a don't, but listen to Stacey and Clinton people neutrals can always be mixed!


4. What items lately, either recently in style or coming in now, do you think should never make it off the retail shelves?
Those harem pants hands down.  Who thought that was a good idea?  And I know I'll get a lot of are you kidding me?s on this one... but those clunky clogs that are so popular... I can't get into them.

5. In your opinion, is there any blogger, fashion icon, celebrity who some how manages to pull off some fashion don’ts and still look good?
I don't do a lot of celebrity watching, though I am always amazed at what Sarah Jessica Parker can pull off.  I have to say that there are a hand full of bloggers who have done the whole socks and sandals thing and managed to pull it off.  And as much as I don't like socks with sandals, I occasionally have to admit that one or two bloggers made it look good.  Though trust, you will never find me in socks and sandals.

Daily Outfit: You Can't Blow Out a Flame That You Can't Find

So the humidity was crazy yesterday and I felt like my hair was taking queues from that shampoo commercial with Troy Palamalu... It just kept getting bigger and bigger!

So the day didn't end up being nearly as stressful as I had anticipated.  Other than traffic every which way, it went rather smoothly.  Still, two classes and an event in one day... let's not do that one again, okay?  I am however excited about all of my classes I'm taking this semester.  I'm working on 3 different certifications right now, which admittedly might not have been the most sanity controlling idea I've ever had... but hey, I'm just trying to use my free time as productively as possible!





I had to change into my work shirt for my event, which was easy enough since I had enough time to go home between my first class and the event, but when I wanted to change back into this shirt and vest I had to do so in a moving vehicle or a parking lot... I definitely changed shirts at a stop light.  It was a ridiculous 2 or 3 minutes of flailing and I'm sure I gave the driver around me quite a show.  Oh well, I'll never see them again!

Daily Outfit: Age is No Guarantee of Maturity

Ok, so I've been thinking a lot lately about maturity. What makes someone mature. For a long time I thought that being mature meant getting older, having a steady job and a 401K and settling down into a comfortable relationship. But now... now I don't think any of that makes you mature. Honestly you can have all of that an still not be mature. It takes more maturity to realize that that steady job and 401K don't make you happy or satisfy you in any way and to choose to walk away from that than it does to stay put doing that job day in and day out. And it takes a hell of a lot, including a significant degree of maturity, to be honest enough with yourself and with another person that just because a relationship is comfortable and you love that person... doesn't mean that you're meant to be or that it's going to work in the long run. I think that honesty is the stuff that maturity is made of, becuase the more honest you are with yourself and others, the more maturely you deal with situations and life in general.

Daily Outfit: Jumping For Joy is Good Exercise

So this casual at its most casual, for me.  I was working from home and traveling back from visiting my family, so I didn't make a point to get really dressed today.  But This is one of my Hollins T-shirts that I love.  NEFA is the Fine Arts dorm at my University, and this t-shirt was designed by the talented residents and sold for their Arts Fest fundraiser.  The NEFA arts fest t-shirts are some of my favorites from my college days!

Daily Outfit: Unanchored in the Storm or Safely on the Shore

My mother and I were literally racing the sun to take these pictures.  We had been out shopping and eating and just generally lolly gagging around and then I realized that it was 7:30 and I still hadn't taken pictures.  So we raced to the nearest place we could to get these in before the sun went down.  I think they turned out so lovely!  I should take more pictures at this time of day!





Aw, how I do love tights and shorts!  I know I said this just the other day, but I really do love them.  I love the color of these tights so much, though I do think they aren't as durable as my We Love Colors tights... I swear those We Love Colors tights are made from something supernatural because they are so durable!  And not to mention so comfortable...  I'm sad I have so few pairs.  I think I'm going have to decide on a few other colors to pick up for fall.  More of the ones I have now are more springy than anything.  And I do just love tights in general.

Daily Outfit: Your Intentions They Weren't All Bad

I cannot get used to myself without my glasses... my face looks so... naked!  But these pictures are so lovely.  I was taking my normal outfit pictures down on the riverwalk when a really nice guy that happened to be biking by stopped and offered to take my outfit pictures for me.  I'm really pleased with how they came out, and I have to say it it kind of nice to have someone else take the pictures now and then.  My tripod and little remote doesn't have a sense of spontaneity, so I don't get to capture photos like these all that often.  A hand full of these were still taken with my tripod.







I especially love the very last picture.  I love the lighting and everything... and even though I'm not wearing my glasses I really love the picture.  But trust, I wont be getting contacts anytime soon... I'm still a big fan of my glasses.

Daily Outfit: I Can't Do Anything Without a Deep Fryer and a Little Glitter

I love these shorts more than I did before because this morning I realized that I can make them any length that I want to.  I had been simply rolling them up to be longer shorts and this morning I was fretting about not having shorter jean shorts to wear with tights when I realized that all I had to do was roll these shorts a little shorter.  Probably should have gotten to that conclusion earlier, but hey let me have my moment!

I've seen this often around the blogosphere, the whole tights with shorts thing, and I always thought wow, that's clever and I want to do that!  Today, finally, was the perfect weather to give it a go.  And I am loving this outfit.  It's so casual, yet makes me feel really chic.  I'll definitely be doing the whole tights with shorts thing more often!





So last night was the season finale of Top Chef: DC which was really good, and the person I wanted to win of the three won, so I was very pleased.  Then I watched Top Chef Just Desserts... which looks like it will be decent, but full of catty drama.  There are seriously more queens on that show then RuPaul's Drag Race... which is a show ABOUT drag queens.  I do have to say I was laughing through a lot of it because they kept saying that funniest things.  This post's title is definitely from last night's show.  I will definitely be watching this one next week!

Aw yes, and... HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY WIFE!  I'm writing this on her actual birthday which when this is posted will be yesterday.  Ok that was a convoluted way of saying that, but you get the point!  Happy Birthday, wife... we're another year closer to Atlantic City!  haha.

Daily Outfit: You Were Once Wild Here. Don't Let Them Tame You.

So I actually was wearing a brown belt with this when I went to my meetings this morning... but I took it off at some point during the day and realized only after spending 30 minutes or so taking outfit photos that I had forgotten to put it back on.  I was so happy about some of the pictures that I had taken that I decided that I wasn't going to redo them just for the belt.  So imagine this... but with a belt.





Last night I stayed up watching Gone with the Wind on TV.  Despite having seen bits and pieces here and there, I had never actually seen the movie in its entirety until last night (Tuesday night).  I must say, I outright sobbed for the last hour of the movie and off an on through the last two hours of the movie.  What a fantastic film.  I really feel the need to read the actual book now, something that I have entertained the idea of doing for years.
