So first of all, I am over joyed that Jim Parsons got a ridiculously well deserved Emmy for The Big Bang Theory. I screamed and jumped up and down... I was thrilled for him! I was, however, disappointed to see LOST get shut out of everything they were nominated for. Sad day...

I saw this romper in my closet and decided I should get some wear in before the weather turns cold and there aren't as many opportunities for rompers. From there I thought of my friend Hnin, who is always telling me to wear more black... so this one is for you Hnin, a mostly black outfit, but you know Jenni style.

So my car is all fixed up and back in my possession. The week turned out alright after all. I thought that is was supposed to be in the mid 80s the rest of this week over the weekend, but it seems that the sun had other plans because it was definitely back up in the 90s today. Boo. So I went for something easy breezy for the day. I was excited to find this cool metal wall on the back of an abandoned building while I was out in one of my rural counties at meeting, so I took advantage and took some pictures there... i thought it was funny how the wall went from metal to old weathered wood... hence that ridiculous picture!

Thrift Store Haul: A Box of Vintage Dresses in the Mail - Take Two!

So another box came for me from the sweet lady who sold me some of hers and her daughters' old clothes.  This one was a smaller package, but still very exciting! Here's what was inside...

VintageBox2 2

I'm not so sure about this peach colored one... peach looks horrible on me, but I would be really interested to see what Marisa of New Dress A Day would do with it.  There was a belt with it that I'm thinking I can style up, though!

I really love this plaid one, and I think I might see what I can do about shortening the sleeves, becuase I'm not a long sleeves person and I'm not really a fan of the little things on the elbows, but with that easy fix, this is going to be an awesome addition to my fall wardrobe!

I'm glad to see that you guys seem to have had good Augusts. Mine wasn't all bad, just very busy for sure. I'm looking forward to a little down time and of course football season coming up in the next few months.

Having to get up at 7AM on 3ish hours of sleep breeds simple outfits. I love this dress because the faux smocking on the top is its own accessory. The car situation is sort of under control. A part is ordered and I have a rental car... but its going to cost a ridiculous amount for a painted piece of plastic. siiiiiigh. That's all I got because mostly I'm just trying to keep from falling asleep on my keyboard.

What a beautiful day today!  I'm so excited that the heat has broken, at least for today.  There was a nice breeze and taking outfit pictures was actually enjoyable!  Imagine that!  So today I had to sit at the car dealership for three hours AGAIN and they finally fixed what was wrong... then I got home, went to open my trunk... and a piece of my car fell off!  I yelled "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" in the middle of the parking lot.  This is the kind of month I've been having.

How's August been treating you guys?

Mid-Week Pick Me Up: For the Love of Paper Cranes

One of my favorite blog entries to read in my long list of Bloglovin' blog entries are the ones about favorite things or things that make you smile.  Twitch Vintage and pixiespace both do a feature like this and I am always excited to see them.  So I decided to add in a few of these type entries myself every now and then as a mid-week pick me up.

Comments:
I really only put this outfit on to go to the book store to get the next book in the Pretty Little Liars series... yeah yeah judge me if you want to, but I am entranced by these books, and the show!  I do love this hat and this dress, which have been summer staples for sure, and I have a feeling that these booties are going to be a serious fall staple.  I think the dress and the hat will transition into fall well too.  I'm excited to style this dress for cooler weather, just to see how far I can push it.

1970 Hollins Spinster [Part One]

So as I've mentioned before, I went to Hollins University, a women's college in Southwest Virgina.  I have been in love with Hollins, its beauty, its culture, its history, ever since I stepped foot on campus.  I love hearing the stories of alumnae who came before me.  I started collecting old Spinster yearbooks, yes that is the name of our yearbook, a few years ago.  They paint such fascinating pictures of Hollins.  So I decided that I would scan in some of my favorite pictures from the old Spinsters in my collection.  I started with the 1970 Spinster because it is by far my favorite in my collection.  What wonderfully stylish and quirky women!

This one is the last picture in the yearbook and I love how it represents so much of the quirkiness of Hollins.  It looks like they had a whole lot of fun taking this picture... I especially love the girl in the middle holding a Playboy magazine and throwing up the peace sign.  Classic.

It has been a long week.  I've been at a staff retreat for the company sitting in meetings all day.  Today was a bigger all company meeting and it was interesting to say the least.  I got both this dress and these shoes when I went shopping with a few of my coworkers earlier this week.  I saw these boots and fell in love instantly!  I am dying for fall, and I feel like this outfit will transition well into fall.

I got my hair cut today and I am excited to wash it and style it myself to see how it will look, and by style it I mean let it dry naturally because we all know I don't do much to it.  I love that Dennis (my amazing hairstylist) asked me what I'd done to my hair today and I said uhhh.... i woke up?  He said you didn't do anything?  and I said uhh, no it just dried like this!  And he was like well keep doing nothing because it looks awesome!  I do love my natural curls!

Comments:
So I saw this dress on Rue La La and I had to have it.  It was so much cheaper than its original price, and I've been looking for just the right dress in this style.  When it arrived the other day, I ripped through the box and tried it on immediately, luckily it fit perfectly, so I shoved it in my suitcase knowing I wanted to wear it today at the staff retreat.  Funny enough while out shopping this evening my colleague found a nearly identical on at Marshall's.  It was gray and a different material, but it was the exact same style and a Calvin Klein.  So ironic!

I was excited to pop over to the sculpture garden and take pictures today when I got out of the retreat.  Its been on my list of photo shoot options for awhile.  I wish I'd gotten a few more pictures with the awesome art in the sculpture garden, but the sun was intense and I am more and more convinced these days that I need to go shopping for a new lens for my camera.  It lets in mega light no matter what I do and I've switched it out on my D80 and D50 camera body and the problem in the same.... so it has to be the lens.  But a problem for another day... I'm open to suggestions for Nikon lens, but I'm not sure I'm ready to fork out the money for a new lens just yet.

Comment:
So from the first time I saw Elizabeth of Delightfully Tacky wearing this dress as a vest I couldn't wait to style mine up as a vest.  I was looking for other ways to where this dress because it's a little too tight in the bust area, and I thought wearing it as a vest was genius!  I did have a little trouble finding a dress that looked right with, but then I found this one that tends to just hang out in my closet since the top of it has no way to hide bra straps.  So it was such a natural pair.  The colors go well together and wearing this dress as a vest of the other one remedies the bra strap issue.

I've been a terrible blogger lately.  It has been a struggle to even get posts up on time, I'm amazed I've been able to keep up with editing and posting and photos and everything.  August is the busiest month for my job, so it's been hectic... and that's an understatement.  Hopefully soon I will get back to reading and commenting regularly.  My bloglovin' is in the triple digits... sigh.

This is one of the dresses from the box of vintage dresses I received last week, as you probably noticed.  This was definitely one of my favorites.  I am not a big fan of gingham to be honest, but something about this dress really appealed to me.  Its also so light and breezy and in this heat that's always a good thing.  This necklace I felt went well and once I put it on and these shoes, I suddenly felt kind of like a milkmaid... ha.
